Greenville College’s Bastian School of Theology, Philosophy and Ministry and 2016-17 Andrews Fellow in Christian Unity Benjamin D. Wayman, Ph.D., are pleased to announce the first annual Andrews Lecture in Christian Unity.
The lecture, titled “‘That They May All Be One’: New Testament Images of Christian Unity,” will be given by Michael J. Gorman, who holds the Raymond E. The lecture will take place in the Whitlock Music Center, 101-199 N. Elm St., Greenville, Illinois, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. This lecture is free and open to the public, and the Gateway Conference also has made the event a Pastors Resourcing Day. Gorman will also be speaking in Greenville College’s chapel at 9:30 a.m. that same day.
Gorman is the author of a dozen books and numerous articles in New Testament studies, biblical interpretation, and Christian ethics. His books include “Apostle of the Crucified Lord” and “Reading Paul.” Gorman received his B.A. in French from Gordon College and his M.Div. and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary where he was a classmate of St. Paul’s Free Methodist Church Preaching Pastor and Greenville College Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Brian Hartley. He is a member of the Society for New Testament Studies, the editorial board of two journals, and the steering committee of several scholarly bodies. In 2005, he received the Fortress Press award for outstanding graduate theological teaching, and, in 2015-16, he was a Henry Luce Fellow in theological scholarship. A United Methodist layperson, he is a frequent lecturer in churches and institutions of higher education of many traditions in this country and abroad.
